CAPE MACLEAR NATIONAL PARK
Lake shore, lake and island habitats. Access by road from Lilongwe, Blantyre or Zomba or by boat from Lake Malawi. Open all year round. Comfortable accommodation available. Animals living in the park include antelope, elephant, hippopotamus, monkeys and otters. Many species of reptiles, birds and fish in the underwater park.
KASUNGU NATIONAL PARK
Savannah, woodland and riverine habitats. Comfortable lodge accommodation. Access from Lilongwe or Kasungu by road or by light plane. Comfortable accommodation available. Animals living in the park include antelope, buffalo, cheetah, elephant, impala, kudu, leopard, rhinoceros and zebra.
LENGWE NATIONAL PARK
Mainly woodland. Access by road form Blantyre. Chalet accommodation. Open all year round. Animals living in the park include baboon, blue monkey, hyena, leopard, lion, nyala antelope and a wide variety of birds.
LIWONDE NATIONAL PARK
Savannah, river and lake habitats. Access by road from Zomba. Fairly basic rondavel accommodation. Animals living in the park include crocodile, hippopotamus, elephant and a wide variety of birds.
MAJETE GAME RESERVE
Savannah. Access from Blantyre by road. Open all year round. Chalet accommodation. Animals living in the park include elephant, kudu, sable antelope, waterbuck.
MWABVE GAME RESERVE
Savannah. Access by road from Chiromo. Chalet accommodation. Animals living in the park include antelope, hyena, leopard, rhinoceros.
NKHOTAKOTA GAME RESERVE
Lakeside plain. Access by road from Lilongwe or by boat from Lake Malawi. Open all year round. Chalet accommodation available. Animals living include antelope, lion and leopard.
NYIKA PLATEAU NATIONAL PARK
High plateau, savannah with few trees so game spotting is made easier. Access by road from Rumphi or Katumbi. It is permitted to walk in this park as there are neither lions nor elephant. Chalet accommodation. Animals living in the park include bushbuck, eland, leopard, reedbuck, roan antelope, warthog, zebra.
VWAZA MARSH GAME RESERVE
Swampy marsh land. Access from Karonga or Mzuzu by road. No accommodation. Animals living in the reserve include buffalo, crocodile, elephant and hippopotamus.
